Common Pug Dog Health Concerns

Pug dogs are one of the most popular breeds for pet owners today, and anyone considering adopting one should educate themselves a bit about pug dog health.

This ancient breed has actually been around since about 400 BC and is a member of the AKC Toy Group. Its elf like features - the wrinkly flat face, short hair and curly tail makes it one of the most endearing breeds. Having a thickset body, the weight of a pug ranges from 13 to 20 pounds and the height from 10 to 14 inches.

Ironically, it is these very unique features that actually attribute to the unique health concerns of the breed. However, this should not deter you from adopting one as providing the proper care to avoid these health issues is really quite simple.

First, there is the dog’s wrinkly skin. Unfortunately, your pug’s adorable skin folds are prone to infection — you must consult your veterinarian immediately at the first signs of infection. You should bathe and clean your pug regularly — particularly making sure you clean in between the wrinkles, removing any dirt or debris because that can cause bacteria build up (which could lead to infection).

Another common problem with pug dog health are the eyes. Pug eyes are not well protected because of the way their eyes are shaped and the where the eyes are on the face. This could lead to injuries and other complications. You should regularly check your pug’s eyes for ulcerations and make sure you get your dog to the vet immediately if you see any problems.

Weight gain is another problem, commonly found in pugs, which could have an adverse effect on their health. Pugs as a breed has a tendency to overeat, so be careful about your pets food intake and maintain its weight at healthy limits.

Pugs are also sensitive to very hot temperatures so you need to be careful not to keep your pet under extreme conditions for long time. Never keep your dog outside where there is no shade or locked up in a car during summers. Overheating can make breathing difficult for pugs.

A good health care regimen for your pet Pug means a long, happy life together. Responsible pet ownership includes taking care of your pet. Proper nutrition, grooming and regular visits to your vet, will assure proper Pug dog health is maintained.

Is Botox the Best Answer for Your Wrinkles?

Saturday 19 July 2008 @ 7:40 am
by Kyle Richey

Browsing the Internet or looking at a magazine in the store, you have more than likely seen or heard of Hollywood celebrities getting Botox injections. Celebrities resort to Botox to get rid of unwanted wrinkles, and both men and women try the procedure. Many believe that Botox is a miracle cure because it seems to leave everyone who tries it with smooth, youthful looking skin.

It must be safe since everyone is doing it, right? By the looks of things, it appears to be working. Should you try them? Check out the latest on getting Botox injections to rid you of unwanted wrinkles.

Since everything in the world has a risk, it is safe to say that getting Botox injections for wrinkles done definitely has risks. Botox originated from a certain type of poison that was utilized during wars on many occasions. Botox is able to get rid of wrinkles by paralyzing muscles, which then makes them basically impossible to move.

Botox injections for wrinkles are of course much less potent and only slightly paralyze the muscles under the skin where they are injected, so that those deep creases and lines in the skin that we call wrinkles can’t be formed. They usually are not given around the areas of the eyebrows or anywhere else that might make the facial expressions seem unnatural and usually don’t interfere with normal expression.

Besides this, there are many other warnings against getting Botox. People should consider these before deciding to get Botox injections for wrinkles. Recently, there have been warnings that the injections have caused very severe side effects as well as death in some cases.

This could be explained because Botox injections for wrinkles only used to be allowed to be given by a licensed physician or dermatologist; however, today, aestheticians that work in beauty salons have begun to give Botox injections. Many of these aestheticians do not have the experience of knowing how to correctly inject the substance, especially into skin that isnt as firm as some peoples.

Many of these people giving the Botox injections for wrinkles were not trained on how to do this and possessed no license at all. It had begun to be as routine as getting your hair cut or nails done.

A few years back, people have even held Botox parties. These Botox parties would be held in a private home were these injections were given out like party gifts and glasses of wine. This is very unsafe.

It would seem unwise to have a lethal poison injected into your system by anyone, much less by someone that was not very educated or capable of doing this. Botox injections for wrinkles are not just another salon treatment and are not as simple as a facial or massage.

They are a serious treatment option that should be considered only if being administered by a licensed physician or dermatologist that is experienced in this procedure. Anyone considering Botox injections for wrinkles should also seriously consider the possible consequences and side effects, and the cost as well. They may have some effectiveness against wrinkles but carry some serious risks.

Only by understanding these risks and by talking them over with your treating doctor can you make the decision about whether or not this option is for you.

Laser Hair Removal

Want to get rid of that ugly extra hair? Sick and tired of waxes and creams that hurt and don’t last? These old solutions just aren’t that good.

Another method that has been around for years is electrolysis. Although effective, this procedure has one major problem. The system works on one hair follicle at a time. Small areas take hours of time over many months of treatments. Large areas of hair removal won’t really be feasible with electrolysis.

Laser hair removal might be the best answer. Small areas can be treated in less than ten minutes. Although multiple treatments are used to achieve the best results, they are quick and convenient.

There can be some risks with laser surgery. There could be burns, or a changing of skin color. Most of these cases have been caused by unqualified laser operators.

The easy way to reduce the risk of any surgical problems is to work with a experienced doctor. Stay away from the cheap offers. If you look into things properly things will work out well.

The biggest pluses for laser hair removal are, it’s quick, and you can treat large areas of unwanted hair in a session. You won’t need more than an hour to treat virtually any body part.

Laser hair removal will result in permanent reduction of hair. You will have smooth, soft skin. Most patients have good, long lasting results. Touch up treatments might be needed, one or two a year.

Laser hair removal works best for light skin dark hair clients. This is due to the fact that the laser is attracted to the melanin in the hair follicles. Recent advancements in the field have improved the results for all patients.

Newer lasers are using what is called pulsed light removal. This method is much safer on the skin. Also this system works better on all skin types.

In grown hair are a painful problem for many people. Lasers work very well in removing these. Even though they are under the skin, the laser spots the hair follicle and zaps it.

Lasers seem to be the wave of the future for hair removal. The fast sessions and good results are very appealing. If you need hair removal, definitely check out laser hair removal.

Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Ribbon

Saturday 19 July 2008 @ 6:28 am
by Ray Lam

You’ve seen them on the lapels of celebrities at awards shows. You’ve seen them as jewelry, as magnets, as pictures on grocery items. They’re those little ribbons that show the wearer is a supporter of the cause the ribbon represents.

It all started with the red ribbons in support of the fight against aids. Now we’ve got yellow ribbons and blue ribbons and purple ribbons. Today, we will talk about pink ribbons - those that show your support in the effort to find a cure for breast cancer.

The breast cancer ribbon is a favorite among women. This is because this disease has hit home to almost everyone. If you don’t have a family member affected by breast cancer, you have a friend or co-worker who has. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone in America who doesn’t know someone who has had breast cancer. Unfortunately, it’s almost as hard to find someone in America who hasn’t known someone who DIED from breast cancer. Breast cancer occurs in more people than any other cancer except skin.

The pink ribbon is considered to be an international symbol for breast cancer-regardless of country, the pink ribbon serves a universal meaning. One of the very interest facts is that no one company, organization or foundation owns the rights to this worldwide symbol. Each company, organizations or foundation can create their version of the pink ribbon and this will give them the rights reserved on their copyright, for example Avon has its own, as does Estee Lauder. This is one the reasons why you see so many different pink ribbons being displayed.

The pink ribbon is an international symbol for breast cancer awareness. You can wear your pink ribbon in any country; it has universal meaning. No one or no company owns the rights to the pink ribbon. In fact, companies who use this symbol each add their own flair. Avon’s pink ribbon doesn’t look exactly like Estee Lauder’s. But they’re both recognizable as symbols of support for breast cancer issues, treatment and especially for finding a cure. And portions of the sale of each go to breast cancer research.

So, whether you have your own personalized pink ribbon that you share with friends and relatives or you are using a corporate one, you are showing your support for this very important cause. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each ribbon goes into breast cancer research-to help those looking for a cure for all of us.
